EU-Mercosur negotiations advancing with a goal to finish by the end of 2017
The most recent (30th) round of EU-Mercosur negotiations came to a close in Brasilia on 10 November. Agriculture Commissioner Phil Hogan offered assurances to concerned stakeholders, promising that "every offer of sensitive products made by the EU is calibrated by taking account of all relevant elements including the cumulative impact and effect of past and future free trade agreements”.
DG Trade reported substantial progress on all areas, and a commitment to improved market access offer for goods. The new EU offer will reportedly be presented to EU member states around 20 November, before presentation to Mercosur partners during the next round of discussions, from 29 November – 5 December.
It has been hinted that that both Commissioner Hogan and Trade Commission Malmström may fly to Buenos Aires to seek a political agreement as early as 6 December.
